The American Shukokai Karate Union (ASKU) was founded in 1984 by Sensei Kimura. After his passing in 1995, a new ASKU was formed as a non-profit organization. ASKU is headed by Sensei H.W. Bressaw (7th Dan USA chief instructor and one of four technical advisors to 20 countries under Kimura Shukokai International). A committee has been formed within ASKU to approve black belt promotions, develop the improvement of technique, participate in National and International tournaments and oversee the martial arts relationships between its members. These committees are comprised of the next highest rank of 6th and 5th Dans that were trained directly by Sensei Kimura, Sensei George McGrath (6th Dan) , Sensei Alex Couto (6th dan), Sensei Mac Albus (6th Dan) , and Sensei Dan McCook (5th Dan) , Gavin Armstrong (5th Dan) and Mohktar Chouie (5th Dan). These instructors, together with the many other dedicated ASKU instructors, are responsible for the perpetuation of the etiquette, technique and philosophy of Sensei Kimura's Shukokai Karate Do (Sensei Kimura's Way of Karate) in the United States. ASKU is a member of Kimura Shukokai International (KSI).
